Little did we know how much fun it would be to write when we first sat down to start our first book 14 YEARS AGO with 2 laptops, a flipchart, and LOADS of ideas.
That first book, ‘The Team Formula: A Leadership Team of a Team Who Found Their Way’, was a business story following the trials and tribulations of a leader and his global team following a disruptive merger/acquisition. We worked on characters, the emotions of change, power struggles, glimpses of hope despite differences, cultural challenges, and more. We ended up going to different locations to write authentically about the settings.
And we found that it was so much more fun than we could have anticipated!
We discussed and brainstormed, we tested ideas, we laughed (a lot!), and we wrote. And we found that the book evolved as our thinking evolved. Of course.
Fast-forward a couple of years—The Team Formula had been published and was doing well, and we were excited to be asked by FT Publishing to write a practical ‘how to’ team leadership book, and this led to ‘Leading Teams: 10 Challenges, 10 Solutions’, followed by ‘The Leader’s Guide to Impact’ and, most recently, ‘Supercharged Leader: Develop your mind and skillset to deal with anything’.
We never set out to write FOUR books, but we did, and it’s been phenomenal! Fun, challenging, developing, rewarding (and we could written a whole list of additional adjectives, but we’ll stop here )
And now we are blown away by the fact that we have received a total of FIFTEEN awards for our four books. So grateful.
Oh, and one of the many learnings and insights we’ve had along the way is this….when your book cover is designed, make sure you make room for some award stickers
