The WHAT and the HOW of communication
Did you know that only 7% of a communication message (face to face) is made up by the words?
And that 38% is tone of voice and 55% is body language?
Communication is a process, an action, but it’s also the execution of that.
Or more simply put – it’s what you do and it’s how you do it.
So, thinking about the words we use is important, but even more important is considering the impact the message is having through tone of voice and body language.
Imagine that the man is saying: “This is a great opportunity!” Which of the faces match the words, and what message would you take from the communication? Facial expressions (part of our body language) speak louder than words, right?
It’s not always easy to see what others see, but if you get a chance to ask for feedback or maybe even have yourself filmed at some point, then go for it. It’s a great way of getting a clearer understanding of what messages you are sending, beyond the words. And through that understanding you can take greater control of your own impact – on your team and beyond.
