Be a leader who likes people – Future Leaders Blog – Wearethecity.com – 24 January 2018
There are so many different ways to lead, but at the core of great leadership is this:
LIKING PEOPLE
As leadership is the art of influencing others and enabling others to do a great job – then it probably goes without saying that you also need to like people – like listening to people, like talking with people, like taking an interest in people – and their ideas, like involving people and like recognising people.
Imagine how that makes people feel. Yes, pretty special.
It may seem simple and obvious, but sometimes the best things are that simple – and worth reminding ourselves of.
We’ve even come across insightful organisations where there’s an expectation that leaders should make employees feel liked. This can’t be faked, it can only be done from an authentic and genuine care for others, so that it becomes more than just empty words.
Creating that kind of environment is also a great magnet for future talent – something every team and every organisation needs.
Here’s to all you great leaders out there who like people and make people feel liked.
We’re pretty sure you deliver business results as a result too!
